It’s no surprise that a banker and stationer designed pens to become famous, but an engineer was the odd man out. The brand’s journey to success was much like a hike up the majestic peak from which it got the name. Mont Blanc’s fountain pens, especially the legendary Meisterstruck pen in 1924, are believed to have been used to sign million-dollar contracts and historical documents. Inspiration for the brand’s new name struck, and the white star logo on every product today also comes from this analogy. A relative of a founder was playing cards when he made a strange analogy between the fancy pen and the Mont Blanc peak on the Alps. The brand also started as the Simplo Filler Pen Company in 1908, but the name we know today came from a fancy pen designed in Hamburg in 1910. Stationer Claus-Johannes Voss, engineer August Eberstein, and banker Alfred Nehemias established the brand. It’s also not named after its founders like most German luxury brands. Mont Blanc is a famous cologne company with strange roots having nothing to do with fragrances. These fragrances are perfect as signature colognes, and it’s merely a matter of figuring out which one suits you better. My partner loves Mont Blanc Legend, and I won’t try to change his mind. However, how I expertly break each cologne down will help you choose your favorite one. You’ll feel like a traveler as the scents take your senses on a journey to new places. Mont Blanc simply means “white mountain,” but the fragrances in this brand are far more colorful, elegant, and user-friendly than trying to climb the second-tallest peak in the European Alps. I’ll be sharing each cologne with you, including its notes, accords, personality, and pros and cons, but the brand’s roots are interesting enough to make you love the scents as much as I do. I want to introduce you to the strangest story ever told in this Mont Blanc cologne guide.
